This section gives tutorials and teaching notes, devised in response to students who have asked for notes to remind them of moves they may have learnt in my classes. They are designed for use in conjunction with lessons from a qualified teacher. I aim to give you some ideas for practice between classes.

DO NOT STRETCH UNTIL YOU HAVE WARMED UP PROPERLY! When muscles and joints are cold you can cause injury by doing the exercises in this section.


During any exercise muscles contract and shorten. This improves both strength and tone. It is important to lengthen muscles after exercise so that they do not become shortened. Gentle lengthening and stretching exercises maintain good muscle function and can help to improve general flexibility.

When doing these stretches, first allow the muscle to relax and lengthen. Take a deep breath in and as you exhale you can gently deepen the stretch (stretch the muscle further).
